Selous Game reserve / Nyerere National Park from Zanzibar

Nyerere National Park and Selous Game Reserve

Selous/Nyerere National Park is Africa’s largest game reserve and one of the largest remaining wilderness areas in Africa. The protected area boosts about 50,000 square kilometres of land which is traversed by Rufiji River, only smaller to Nile River in Africa and the largest in East Africa.

Day trip: Zanzibar – Selous – Zanzibar

The day starts with a transfer from your lodge in Zanzibar very early in the morning to catch the flight from Zanzibar International Airport that flies directly to Mloka Airstrip in Nyerere national park. Our guide will be waiting at the airport with a 4*4 safari vehicle. After obtaining park admission permits from park’s officials, you will continue with safari in the park, exploring areas near the river and various ox-bow lakes that have the highest concentration of animals.

Visitors to the reserve expect to see rare species such as Kudu, brindled gnu, Lichtenstein hartebeest and roan antelope. African Wild Dogs sights are common in this park than anywhere else. You will be treated to a picnic lunch in the park before continuing with the afternoon session of safari. In the evening you will board your flight back to Zanzibar Airport where our driver will transfer you back to your hotel.

Other options

As far as clients’ wishes, this trip can be made to one night and two days or two nights and threes days. The park is as big as not to be completed in a week’s tour in the park.
