Outpost Lodge
Opened in 1994, Outpost Lodge is the oldest B&B in Arusha. Furnished with wood, kitenge and in a garden setting, this hotel is a welcoming rest stop before or after a safari for budget conscious travelers. It has 28 rooms, mostly doubles that can be twins. It also has triples, a quad, a family room plus one disabled friendly room. All rooms have a safe box and large bathroom. For public areas, Outpost has a modest sized pool and a restaurant, bar plus upstairs lounge area. This is a budget friendly hotel that still has nice amenities!
Our History
The main house belonged to the renowned conservationist Bernhard Grzimek, one of the key founders of the Serengeti national park and Director of the Frankfurt Zoological Society (1945 to 1974).
Steve and Cathy Attwell bought the house from the Grzimek family and have retained strong links with the Frankfurt Zoological Society. The Outpost has been the home away from home for many researchers and conservationists from the Society over the years.
About Outpost Lodge
We have 28 clean and comfortable rooms, all with bathrooms en-suite, satellite tv, safes, fans, mosquito nets, soap, shower gel, shampoo, kettles with coffee and tea. The rooms are a mixture of singles, doubles, twins, triples and 1 quadruple. All the rooms are in a garden setting and have outdoor seating areas.Our accommodation is rustic, with an emphasis on clean, comfortable and affordable lodging, and a special ambiance of its own.
Cleanliness and water
Cleanliness is of prime concern and we pride ourselves in this respect.
Water is a concern countrywide and while we do have plenty of storage, the municipal water supply is extremely erratic and can sometimes cause unforeseen shortages. We try hard to cope with the system, but are caught out occasionally. Due to this countrywide water shortage electricity can also be erratic due to the poor hydro power stoppages.
Laundry Services
We offer daily laundry services for a minimal fee. Due to water shortages, washing of clothing in the rooms is not possible.
Disabled Travellers
We welcome disabled travellers and have a room which is completely accessible, please kindly make advanced arrangements with management for this room.
